The Anatomy of Swimwear

What actually separates good swimwear from bad.

Most swimwear is judged by how it looks dry, on a hanger. But what happens in the water? Welcome to a step by step guide on what to look for.

Stretch & Recovery
Low-quality swimwear stretches once and stays stretched. Good fabric is engineered for superior and long-lasting stretch and recovery, returning to original shape, swim after swim, year after year.

Drying Qualities
A denser, more tightly engineered knit holds less water in the fabric. That's the real difference between swimwear that's still damp an hour after you've left the beach, and swimwear that's dry before you've packed up the towel.

Resistance, not just softness
Resistance to chlorine, sunscreen and oil, plus UV protection (UPF 50+) are the things that actually determine lifespan. A soft fabric that degrades after five pool sessions is not ok.

Density & knit construction
A well-constructed knit holds its density under wear, and won’t turn see-through or saggy after a season of wear. What you're looking for is a dense and ultrafine fabric that offers natural moisture control, breathability, and freedom of movement with two-way stretch.

How we created the Singular Swimwear Collection

To get there, the Singular Swimwear Collection was researched and developed by our design team over three years before it ever reached the water.

The Women’s Swimwear fabric is made by Jersey Lomellina, an Italian mill with nearly 50 years in swimwear textiles. Founded in 1977 by Giuseppe Colnaghi, Jersey Lomellina spent its early years in stretch cotton before shifting to microfibre innovation in the late 1980s – a move that turned it into one of the leading names in circular knit fabrics.

The Men's Swim Shorts use ECONYL®, sourced from Limonta, an Italian mill founded in 1893 and still considered one of the finest textile manufacturers in the world. ECONYL® is a 100% regenerated nylon fibre made from pre and post-consumer waste such as fishing nets, carpet flooring and industrial plastic.

Our Manufacturer
Our partner for the Singular Swim Collection is Petratex in Portugal, a 100% green energy certified manufacturer that blends fashion, sport, and cutting-edge technology – working with solar energy and biomass throughout the production process.
