Writer and entrepreneur Michaela Forni has created a home that feels warm, personal, and perfectly her own. What does your home mean to you?
My home is my safe place! It’s more than just an apartment or a place where I live. It’s my own little universe, a place of integrity where I can be fully myself. In a world where social media follows you everywhere, I can rest in my home. It’s just for me and my family, built for us to live life to the fullest.
How long has it been your home?
We moved in last year after a year of renovations, so it’s still new to us. When we went to view the apartment, we knew instantly. I think we went to about 50 viewings before finding this one. It was love at first sight! We wanted a lot of light, to be at the top of the building, and to have a beautiful view. When we stepped inside this apartment and saw how the sun just flooded the whole space, we knew it was right. I can cry just thinking about it, haha!
How do you choose products for your home?
I try to find a balance between what fits the style and what makes my heart melt. I don’t want to buy things that I’m not completely obsessed with. BUT! I should mention that my boyfriend and I are complete opposites when it comes to decor, so sometimes I need to compromise, hehe...
What are your favourite materials, and how do you combine materials?
I love natural stones. Every day I look at the travertine stone in the kitchen or the Breccia Viola marble in the bathrooms and just melt – they are so beautiful! As for how to combine everything, you’ll need to ask our interior designers. We worked with Look Interiors when we renovated the apartment, and they really made it the most beautiful home. I’m so thankful for them!

How would you describe your design and interior philosophy?
It’s super important for me that it’s a cosy home with harmony. That’s my number one – I really want it to feel like a home. I love it when our 5-year-old says, “It’s so coooosy here!” That’s the same feeling I had about my childhood home, and it’s something I carry with me. For this apartment, I wanted a mix of that homey feeling with really high standards when it comes to materials and design. Everything here is handpicked and uniquely made for this space. I think we took five meetings just to design the radiator covers, haha! But that’s the beauty of it. Our home is so beautiful but still has this very harmonic feeling.
What inspires you in your work, your home, and your life?
Watching others! It doesn’t matter if it’s at a restaurant, where I get my morning coffee, on Instagram, in a magazine, or in a book. Inspiration is everywhere, and I feel inspired almost every day. There’s so much beauty in life!
What is your favourite room in your home and why?
I spend a lot of time in our bathroom – I can’t get enough of it! I’ve always loved being in the bathroom. I can take baths for hours, do laundry, beauty routines, or even just clean out a cabinet.
