The Panama Hat is a true classic and the perfect choice for both style and protection from the sun. Each piece is entirely handmade from natural Toquilla palm plant fibres, giving it its neutral colour conformity and its harmonious balance capturing the viewer’s eyes. The quality of a Panama hat is defined by the tightness of the weave (weaves per inch, or WPI), the finer the weave, the better protection against the sun. This hat is made with exclusive extra fine braiding technique that meets the highest possible standards there is. It’s the result of delicate craftsmanship and a true piece of art, it’s something to keep for a lifetime. Each hat comes with a traditional black ribbon.

Our manufacturing partner for this extra fine hat is Arhas International, a Made in France company since 1989. Each piece is entirely handmade in their workshop in Champigny-sur-Marne, outside Paris.

The origin of the Panama Hat hat can be traced from the 16th century when the Spanish conquerors noticed the beautiful headpieces worn by the natives of the region which is now called Ecuador. The hat is made from the fibrous Toquilla palm plant,  explaining the original name in Spanish, which is ”El Sombrero de Paja Toquilla”. In the 17th century the hat was exported to Panama and soon became a favourite among miners coming from the east coast of the United States looking to get in on the gold rush.
